Last week saw mixed market performance, with USD/JPY gaining 72 pips (+0.46%), EUR/USD dropping 120 pips (-1.05%), gold falling 3.36%, and Bitcoin rising 0.53%. This week, traders will focus on the October 7 FOMC Minutes, US economic data, Treasury yields, and geopolitical tensions for fresh opportunities across forex, gold, oil, Bitcoin, and NVIDIA.
Previous Week’s Market Recap
Forex: USD/JPY was the strongest major pair, rising from around 157.28 to 158.00, gaining approximately 72 pips (+0.46%), as higher U.S. Treasury yields and persistent dollar strength kept the yen under pressure. EUR/USD was the weakest major pair, falling from around 1.1375 to 1.1255, losing about 120 pips (-1.05%), while GBP/USD declined from around 1.3211 to 1.3195, slipping roughly 16 pips (-0.12%).
Metals: Gold was the strongest major precious metal, recovering from its sharp Monday sell-off but ultimately falling from around $4,287 to $4,143 per ounce, losing approximately $144 (-3.36%). Silver was weaker, sliding more than 6% to around 60.42–60.50, as elevated Treasury yields, a firm dollar and higher-for-longer Fed expectations pressured precious metals.
Energy: Oil markets remained highly volatile. WTI crude moved from around $92.41 to $91.11, falling approximately $1.30 (-1.4%), while Brent declined from around $104.32 to $102.25, losing about $2.07 (-2.0%). Prices came under pressure toward the end of the week as recovering Middle Eastern export flows and discussions around releasing crude and fuel stockpiles eased some supply concerns.
Crypto: Bitcoin was relatively resilient, rising from around $83,867 to $84,308, gaining approximately $441 (+0.53%) for the week. BTC initially fell toward $83,231 on September 28 before recovering above $84,000 as the week progressed.
Stocks: NVIDIA (NVDA) was the strongest among the selected major stocks, rising approximately 3.95% to close at $233.95, supported by continued AI-related demand and renewed investor interest following its major buyback authorization. META was comparatively weaker, falling approximately 3.14% to $728.08, giving back part of its strong September advance.
Indices: U.S. major indices delivered mixed results. The Nasdaq Composite was the strongest U.S. major index, gaining approximately 0.45% to close at 27,190.86, while the S&P 500 fell 0.27% to 7,722.72 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 1.26% to 51,176.96. The Nikkei 225 was notably stronger, rising from 66,363.98 to 68,309.24, gaining approximately 2.93% as Japanese equities recovered.
